Why Do We Get Wrinkles?

Why do we get wrinkles?

Whether youre 35 or 65, wrinkles and fine lines are our biggest enemies! It’s the most visible sign of aging! I’m not saying aging is a bad thing, I mean the older the wine the better right? But I’m sure we wouldn’t want to give the secret of our age away through our skin so keeping it youthful, fine lines and wrinkle free is important to us.

Free Radicals

Wrinkles are caused by high levels of radicals that our skin is exposed to on the daily collagen becomes damage, this can occur from over expose to sun, smoking, and pollutants within our environment. As time progresses our bodies can not longer produce enough collagen to replenish what has been lost. This causes the skin to become drier and thinner, the growth of new skin cells begins to slow down while the shedding of older skin cells takes longer to fall off.

Collagen Production

The loss of collagen can be hereditary (intrinsic) or by environmental factors (extrinsic). Another factor that contributes to wrinkles and fine lines is stress, Stress can bring on fine lines triggering a hormone called cortisol and adrenaline these hormones affect the aging process by speeding it up and suppress the normal synthesis of the connective tissue.

UV Rays

The most obvious factor of all is the sun. We all love the sun on a summer day but too much of it can harm your skin. UV rays accelerate the destruction of collagen through your skin by oxidation resulting in dry, scaly and wrinkled skin. It is SO important to apply sunscreen when going out into the sun!

Causes of Wrinkles and Fine Lines
